A native Coloradan, Tim Mauck has been a part of Clear Creek County for nine years, living just outside of downtown Idaho Springs for the past seven. Although raised in Denver, Tim grew up spending a majority of his backcountry recreation time in Clear Creek County with his father, three brothers and friends. It is where he still escapes to today, often with his four-legged sidekick, Suzie.
Tim has devoted his entire career to public service, earning valuable experience in federal, state and local government - including four years working for Clear Creek County government, where he defined his commitment to improving our community and quality of life.
After working in Washington, D.C., for then U.S. Congressman Mark Udall, Tim joined the staff of Clear Creek County in 2001 as part of CU Denver’s graduate program focusing on public administration. There he helped coordinate and formulate master plan concepts for Clear Creek County and the Open Space Commission related to recreation, tourism and the development of the Trails and Recreational Sites Master Plan. Tim also developed and managed the County's accounting system for its newly acquired water rights and assisted with the management of its water contracts.
Upon the conclusion of his graduate program, Tim was retained as the Clear Creek County Open Space Coordinator and Community Development Specialist. During his four-year tenure with Clear Creek, Tim worked for the County in many capacities, demonstrating initiative by:
- Successfully co-authoring a grant for $5.2 million to preserve the Beaver Brook Watershed;
- Obtaining a $320,000 grant for the development of the Lawson Hole Whitewater Park from the Federal Highway Administration;
- Working with multiple organizations to obtain $105,000 for a greenway planning grant for which he served as project coordinator;
- Assisting in the budgeting of the Community Development Office and Open Space Commission;
- Working on trail development and off-highway vehicle management; and
- Engaging in the I-70 Mountain Corridor Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) and drafting a response to that plan for the Open Space Commission.
Since 2006, Tim has served as the Deputy Policy Director for Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, West Slope Field Director for Congressman Mark Udall and as the Legislative Liaison for the Colorado Division of Wildlife. During this period Tim honed his policy expertise on the issues of wildfire mitigation, responsible energy development, wildlife management, and representing Congressman Udall on the I-70 Task Force.
An avid backpacker, hunter and angler, Tim and a business partner recently obtained funding to start a new non-profit organization, The Bull Moose Sportsmen's Alliance, dedicated to promoting wildlife conservation and hunting and fishing opportunities nationwide.
Even with his varied professional experiences, Tim’s work for Clear Creek County remains the most fulfilling of his career. Tim is excited to once again focus on issues integral to his community and, with your help and support, to devote his energies and talents to administrative management, policy development and community building in his new role as a Commissioner for Clear Creek County.
